Discord meeting or file link opens in the wrong Mac account
Based on the current product workflow, the linked official documentation, and repeatable checks. Account and compatibility results must be verified on your installed versions.

Handle Discord meeting, channel, invitation, or file links that open in the wrong account when several instances are running.
Why the correct window can still open the wrong link
A macOS link is often handed to one registered application or URL scheme before Discord decides which signed-in identity should handle it. Multiple visible windows do not guarantee an account chooser. The problem is routing, not whether both accounts are online.
Reproduce the link safely
- Use a non-confidential test meeting, channel, invitation, or file.
- Copy the URL instead of clicking immediately.
- Note which Discord identity is frontmost.
- Open the link and record the selected account or organisation.
- Repeat with the other entry frontmost and again after reversing launch order.
Check for an official account or organisation chooser
Look for Open in browser, Choose account, Switch organisation, or a profile menu on the landing screen. If Discord supports several accounts in one official client, that flow may route links more predictably than separate instances. Do not assume the browser and desktop app share the same active identity.
Use a controlled workaround
For an important meeting, open the intended Discord entry first, confirm its profile and organisation, then paste or open the link from inside that context if the app permits it. Otherwise use an approved browser profile already signed in to the correct role. Close unrelated instances during the test so the chosen handler is observable.
Files need an additional permission check
Opening the right application is not enough. Verify that the target account has access to the file and that any downloaded copy lands in the approved project location. A link that silently switches tenant or browser identity can expose the wrong recent files or upload context.
Stop condition
If the same link selects different identities depending on launch order, do not use desktop deep links for that multi-instance workflow. Use the provider's account chooser, a labelled browser profile, or one active account at a time. Dual App Master organises launch entries but does not control macOS URL-scheme ownership.
